Migratory parents are always looking for resources to help support their children’s education. This session will provide an overview of the following digital resources available to support migratory parents and families: Texas Migrant Education Program (TMEP) Portal – This includes online resources specifically for parents and families. Education Resources for Parents of K-12 Migratory Children – This includes literacy resources for home use. AIIMS (Assisting Interstate/Intrastate Mobile Students) Portal – Introduction of new section on parents and families Bring your device! Participants will have time to explore resources available at the portals. Participants will also be encouraged to bookmark sites, create an account for the Education Resources portal, and join the listserv to stay up-to-date on new content and developments.

good afternoon and welcome everyone we're so glad that you are here for I'm going to go ahead and start sharing my screen just to go over a couple of announcements and information so let me go ahead and start sharing in your teammates mean okay I will we want to welcome you to the Texas migrant Interstate programs migratory student interested Interstate coordination conference the formula to success my name is Doctor getting a Gonzalez and I will be facilitating this session before we begin I have a few announcements first of all of the reminder this session is being recorded I think you just made it yourself sorry about that I don't know where I was at. Let me just go back so before we begin I have a few announcements as a reminder this session is being recorded also at the conclusion of the session you will be directed to complete a brief survey to evaluate the session we ask that you please provide your honest feedback so that we can design future sessions that are relevant to your needs finally please be sure to mute yourself like I did and place any questions in the chat box we will be monitoring the chat for any questions that arise so at this time I'm going to go ahead and stop sharing and I will go ahead and turn it over to our session for dinner starting with a z. Ivana good afternoon everyone thank you so much joining our session where is so excited and really looking forward to sharing with you digital resources to support migratory parents as family parents of migratory children and all parents are always looking for ways to support their Auburn and so we as an initiative are working with Region 20 to bring and be able to provide digital resources so I'm going to go ahead and hand it over to Jeremy Poston was going to give you this wonderful overview that we hope you will find very valuable thank you Medallion and that's all she said my name is Jeremy Poston as you can see I work on the Consolidated capacity building on behalf of tesol really glad you're here today welcome thank you so much and thank you for the team IP website for having this conference that we have yesterday and today it's been fantastic and it's been a really great being a part of this before we get into our presentation today I want to take note of of where and end of the rules of everyone that's in attendance today so he could take a moment for me please and just you know give me your ear position of whether you know ESC state if you can indicate where where you're from so brinson's you know I'm I'm ESC staff esc20 in San Antonio do we have anybody from other states with us today I noticed that some of the other sessions of seeing other states so I'm just curious to see if we have anyone from other states here today and that way I can kind of Taylor, what I'm I'm showing to hopefully get some of your needs so how's your doing that I want to emphasize that the resources and programs that are going to be shared available staff to support migratory students and families so you know what we're going to show today is really going to benefit you and then hopefully really benefit them as well so start today with the Tema portal it's a portal that's a platform for accessing all the resources that we're going to share today so you know if you haven't visited it before certainly as I'm going through and showing you everything you'll definitely want to book Market I'm seeing some of the other people thank you so much everyone for adding your name and your position all right so yeah if you want to use your phone we are working tremendously to update it as often we can and make it even more mobile-friendly because we know most people especially our families that are on the Move quite a bit utilize internet access not from a PC or anything like that but mostly on their so we we do work pretty tirelessly to make it accessible on our phones and you know make it better for our parents so we'll go through that first off here Elmo history the website has been in existence for several years but it's been redesigned like I said that's going to continue to be redesigned you know those of you that visited on occasion are pretty frequently and probably noticed ladwp had some updates with it and so what we're going to do now is show you how is organized and how the materials are currently available like you said though it's a resource that's a portal. continuously updated we try to make the links in a manner that's user-friendly and the purpose is to provide easy access to a wide variety of materials we really wanted to be a One-Stop shop where migrant education program staff parents and families of migratory children can really find you know the information and resources that they need quickly and easily so I'm going to stop going to caring here and going to move to homepage here and then last time thank you Sherry for dropping out of a chat I appreciate that so when you get to the site I want to highlight a few things that you see right away from just kind of the main page here you know this that we have along the top here we have English to Spanish it as well as this little drop down for other languages now these are kind of translations done by Google so you know whether they're going to get the job done but there's going to be some some errors here in there cuz if I'm being honest when you do the English and Spanish everything on the site will translate with that and those translations are actually done by human being so you know it's going to be accurate and you know that in the context of what is being turn on the screen that is going to be accurate so users are able to change the Spanish from Spanish back to English and what have you from there and then like I said looking on here like if you have play the family from Germany it does translate in those other languages as well I'm going to change it back here make sure it's English the next thing I want to point out is the Subscribe button subscribe button gets you into our team up listserv and so you would sign up just by inserting your email indicating your room and then what you would do is depending on your role you'll begin getting some newsletters that we make on a quarterly basis we make a parents and families newsletter as well as a staff newsletter and soda King on your role do you get you those newsletters to you and it just kind of keeps you up-to-date with everything that's happening happening in the meth world what's happening with our website so you can stay up-to-date with everything that's happening with an attack and so we really encourage you if you haven't already to go ahead and sign up for the listserv right now you know make sure also 22 to encourage your migratory parents and families of if they received emails to also sign up for this listserv to keep them in the middle of everything that's happening so yeah would really appreciate that and then also we just cannot try not to spam you like I said we only send out maybe one or two emails every quarter if that the Julie just the newsletter so it just keep them in the knowing any of this that we may have we also update them what that as well along the ribbon across the top webcam in Portland shows while on the contact us we give information to users to get in touch with us the capacity building and curriculum initiative here at Region 20 we also have the key contact information for PS4 all 20 regions within the state of Texas comes in and they don't know exactly what region they may belong to we have this map here to keep them informed as to what location is closest to them nn I do want to emphasize that when when users reach out to us specially when it's now highlight this again later but when it comes to anything that deals with our website we take that into account and we trying to make any fixes as quickly as possible because we want to go for the best product for our parents and families migratory students coming back the next thing that I want to highlight is the accessibility we try to make everything sweetly compliant so that all users no matter the background can access all the content of our website so if there's any type of accessibility problems you have your individuals fill this out and we'll be happy to make any fixes to make sure that everyone can access this content the next thing I want to highlight is our user guide this kind of goes through and get users and idea of what part of the portal is relevant to them whether it's the parents of family section of the staff section and also highlights what's contained within some of the other sections of our portal our parents and family section obviously is meant for them we do have this landing page and I do want to share what it's going to look like here in the near future because we are like I said we are trying to make it really user-friendly we do have great resources here along with the bar at the top for parents and families as well as some links on the bottom that gets them in touch with some of our resources this is going to be what it's going to look like in the future so little bit more streamlined experience for our parents and families to look forward to so be on the lookout for that. Should be up and coming in the near future but we love what we have we just want to let you know always strive for for that Improvement so next I'm going to go back and highlight the staff section and from here to met staff can really access everything that they need like we said it's a One-Stop shop for everybody and we make it that they can access our different academic programs the different you know office of Migrant education anything that helps them their job is available here as well as well as resp Med staff across the state we have access to the resources that they need to help them do their job back to the main page here I want to see again our newsletters we talked earlier about the fact that we have that subscribe button we have are archived and crime ditions available here as well we have it for both parents and families so the current edition is available this was from December 5th February so let's got this this February this last month here so be on the lookout for the new one coming out here in a few weeks we also have our met staff Edition on this side obviously are archived additions that we have from the past and then I want to highlight the last thing the haven't shown is some of this some tools that can be used this is more geared for meth staff as you can see it's it's more aligned to them talking about some trainings that we offer in a boar In This Very Town friends their information is here as well so any questions at this point I'm a check the chat real quick so now what I'm going to do is we're going to access some of the education programs that we have to offer for your parents or families to access this part of the portal the easiest way. I would suggest to get to it is by going to resources for migratory families and he get to this really great site that has all these resources not everything from graduation resources Technology support education job Health Mental Health Resources also important also are academic support where you can find links and resources tailored to your child's age and so this is where you'll see what based on this map icon that Ed resources and this is a fantastic resource that we offer I want to come down here and highlight here for anyone may have been a user that hasn't come back in a little bit we have updated to a new mobile friendly platform so as you can see if your credentials no longer words just create new account it's quick it's easy in fact I'll show you how easy it is it just takes a few quick steps you first indicate what your role is so I'll say a MEP staff member and then do you live in Texas yet and then you can pick whatever username Jeremy are posting of his do that make up a password as you can see we do you count by because I know you know there may be some hesitation and giving out personal information and we completely understand that we want to provide this resource has to be Eliza we want to try to make this resource is easily accessible to parents and families and Educators so we really don't require any type of identifying information we just want to get it to you so that you can use and benefit from it and then as you can see once you once you put in that information you're ready to go you can go to the dashboard you don't have to wait for anyone to approve it it's ready for you right away so you see that these are organized by great bands we have Kinder through 2nd 3rd through 5th 6 through 8 9 through 12 in and out of school you at the bottom we always want to hear feedback from parents and users so we we put this feedback on just about every page so you know if your love and want what you're saying when you're using it certainly let us now I'd like to see any type of improvements to it again let us know I'm going to start off your Fender through actually going to go back for a second cuz I want to highlight one other thing too cuz sometimes I just leave some of the stuff off when I'm kind of showing this week we mentioned on here but of your meth staff or you're an educator how does share some of these Resources with parents because it's it's not so much that you know that it's the thing is this is sharing this out other people at the market until we want to try to mark it there so that everyone that can find a use for it in the can utilize it so we have some PDFs down here at the bottom for MEPS. with some ideas on how to Market it and implement it with some of the families in your area we also do the same thing for educators we give them some ideas to get it out to their family is and how families can use this like for instance you create a contact whether it's you know for an individual or a group of students you know it's a great way for students to take this home and Implement some of this learning in their own home with their families and you'll see I want to hear in a few moments once I show you some of these resources cuz this is amazing you know we do Design This with migratory students in mind give another highly mobile and maybe move around play Bad and maybe don't have no sincerity the space to work but really this this that I love this these resources so much that I think any student could benefit from from them so tell them we have these lessons done with many lessons we have tip sheets and videos that that really help a parent who has had no experience in teaching it really guides them and shows them what do with these lessons so let's say so with a garden through second grade band we do have Reading Writing and and is available across battery grade reading and ring from from kinder all the way to high school even out of school use when we started doing is implementing mask by Greg Band and this year the case through second grade band was the first one to get math answer next year 335IS going to have mass and so on the you know 608 what happened so as a former math teacher I kind of have a soft spot for the math portion of this being a lot of lot of students released and so we really start at the very face of Kinder through second to try to build it up so that that can improve and so he's tip sheets are really where parents are going to want to start and then help guide them step-by-step haircut start down here so but you can kind of see it kind of goes into explaining the process of teaching and talks about different you know combinations you're making 10 it's really relevant to each lesson and then what we also include is a transcript and a video of how to parent kind of helping their child in the moment so to come explain that I'm going to play it here for us. For just a little bit so that kind of illustrates what it can do as young children progressed through the early years in schools they use objects and drawings count on their fingers and use other strategies to make sense mass in their world children need access to a variety of strategies when it comes to adding or subtracting numbers this way they can choose the strategy or strategies that work best for him or her let's watch is the parent and child use a number line as a strategy for adding numbers different ways that freaking why because I have that I just got and it talks about Edition so why don't we why don't you give me a second to go get it well you know what it says that the number line is a tool that we can use so why don't we start with one problem I'm going to write it down for you so there you see I mean it and it goes in there for parents and if you want to continue watching it yo she's going to go through each of the three ways and so it really builds up that capacity for the parents to be able to find comfort knowing how to work these lessons with their kids so then you come here and you know you would choose the many lessons so I should go to geometry and measurement and it's it's really stuck just like a teacher kind of lesson plan you know you have the the standard up here at the top you have the content objectives of the language objective how long it's going to take what materials are going to need okay so in it spelled it all out for you in a lot of cases some of these materials are contained in the next pages and I'll show you kind of what that looks like here in a moment but here it goes through the step-by-step procedures that Leslie how you're going to work this lesson how it's going to play out what you should ask what you should say it's it's almost like a whole script for the whole entire lesson for the parent and then you also see check for understanding so it is basically teaching the parent hey you know you're not just going to do this and just watch the student this is what you should do to make sure that they fully understand what's happening in the less and so as you see to we also include someone cutouts that are going to work is kind of like the manipulatives for the lesson and it's really nice to because if you notice we make the next page intentionally blank so that you know it was double sided you wouldn't have the the one side with a manipulative with also the other side is going to make it so that it's really easy when you're cutting these out and then you're all so you know we also have some of these type things where you have the keys so that the parents don't have to feel like they have to find the answer on their own or young Google to find the answer we lay it out for them all in one place so makes it really really easy for them try to make it as a blessed rest as possible by having that video by having these Keys having all the things in one spot the really good thing to about it is that the default is in English but we everything that we offer is also a Spanish and like I said earlier this is all translated by person do you know that it's legitimate is going to be the best quality that we can possibly offer to make sure that these students are doing really well English or Spanish and so everything else follows with in Spanish to if you if you toggle that language button in the upper right hand corner also want to do one of the videos in Spanish as well because that's also something else Andy for parents sushiko solo second veteran and Buenos Lake Torres Gonzalez Valor de la lectura so yeah we have it in in both languages and then the other thing I wanted to show you as well I'm going to get it back to English is some of these web-based game and the good thing about these is that since they're web-based you don't have to download any type of app from the App Store like we said earlier we're trying to make this more mobile-friendly and I was testing it out earlier on an iPhone and this works just fine so it's hit the grade you are in I'm pretty self-explanatory with these webpage games pretty simple yeah so you kind of get the point we we try to offer ways for students to really benefit from what we offer coming back to the Dashboard Light through second does have the math 3rd through 5th is going to have a habit next but we do offer reading you have writing we also have oral and written conventions which is kind of a blend of of some of the reading and writing see you in those cases, phone so again I want to emphasize the fact that you know if you had signed up for this before and if you don't have access to but you know it's because we we didn't change the Bat Mobile friendly platform so do be sure to create a new account if if you need to and reach out to us if you have any questions we always love hearing from you when it comes to improving what we have to offer no I wanted to also explain to that Grace Kinder through eight are pretty much done the same way in which you have yet of the many lessons with the tip sheets but it's cuz when he gets to the high school G and the reason why is you know for students from K through 8 they're okay with having a parent sit across from them at the table working with them I don't think high school students really appreciate that as much I don't think they like to be looked over you're not like those younger kids do but those of you that maybe had a high-school students during the pandemic they probably didn't exactly want to work with you in their space they probably wanted to do their own thing and we kind of took that and and and changed it for the high school students by making these self-paced interactive's modules they're in English one and two or esol one and two and we can we try to make it a little bit different for them just because like I said they'd be better they're more mature they can, handle this type of thing a little so what we do is we offer the modules in in the video format to the left and as you can see the video oral and written is his kind of the video was set up a little bit differently where you kind of have these modules were these subsections started with a content of this module and as they go through it they have the printable resources that go along with it so that they can utilize those those resources these you know some of these mnemonic devices to help them when they're going through the course so it's set up a little bit differently we also do the Tieks a little bit differently to compare to the the k through eight it's not quite set up like a like a lesson plan like we saw earlier it's kind of just straightforward and to the point the one thing to take who is that the when you change it to Spanish on the website the content of the website does change to Spanish however the videos are still in and the reason why that is is because it's me know Spanish is not simply offered in the high school level for English one obviously so we do change it so that the parents who want to look at the website or look at the course can understand what their child doing the course itself is going to remain in English have as well as the the written resources as well do something to take note off to make sure your parents understand when their students in the high school level. Not everything ends up being in the English the conference the website absolutely but the contents of the lesson not necessarily and then out of school use what we do is we actually link it to this page from our portal that gives some out-of-school youth some some resources where maybe they want to go back to to get there a Chelsea their high school equivalency or their GED do we also offer job-related training education Support Services you know anything that's going to benefit them because we know that sometimes you know they may not always be looking to finish their education they may not need to support their family and so with that in mind we do offer them those resources so that they can you know by to themselves provide for their loved ones what have you the next thing I want to highlight are some bear with me one second then back to normal resources here financial aid military and then these links picking up her for some of the high school students we do offer some of these resources here as well for those not anymore that aren't in K-12 anymore so they're looking to you know of Tina a degree of higher education we do offer links that can support that as well as those that are going to the military as well so what I'm going to do is give you guys just a few moments here to get back 2 The Ed resources again you can get to it by going to the app to the resources page I will drop it in the chat a few moments here to access sign ups and I know a lot of us have to redo that don't give you a few moments to do a real quick if you're doing that just want to let you know specially for those of you from out-of-state this is a 8 a long process and it is a well-structured process when it comes to determining what resource we're going to be incorporating in here so esc20 ensures that the right people the right staff with the expertise are involved in the process and a lot of reviews and looking at the different perspective specially from the parent's perspective to make sure that these things are our friendly for them and eats for them to follow and navigate also continuous Improvement through the feedback is very very and they take that very seriously one last thing for talking about academics or 1 last section I want to show you on the portal since we're talking about academic support I do want to highlight that we do offer some of these engraved bands as well so we have Kinder I'm sorry children from birth to age 5 this is information for y'all getting students into Head Start or any type of preach in her Garden or Early Childhood Program we also talked about a bright beginning which is again one of our academic programs that we offer that we helped develop a region 20 we also have academic support four children and grades K through five and this is where we get parents in touch with different resources about in Texas we have the STAAR test and so this gets them information about that you a lot of times migratory parents are a little bit reluctant to go into the school and so they're not real sure what to do with teacher conferences in what battle until about that and then we also have information for our grades 6 through grade 12 so we can set up in a very similar way where we give parents information about the attendance the state assessments obviously parent-teacher conferences are much different at the secondary level than they are at the elementary level 3 can I get information about that too you know in that type of lens where you know when you're in high school that the teacher conferences are going to look much different than they are at the elementary level and then also graduation requirement so we've covered quite a lot let me come back over my slideshow here again like I mentioned with the math resources beginning next year will have grades three through five for some of the mass again right now it's available for Kinder through second and then the last thing I want to highlight our some marketing materials and we move that let me find where that has moved I think it is parent family engagement marketing materials to have brochures that they hand out a different get a pack meeting or a different family engagement type evenings or events in so it's it's a great tool to use for for marketing we have it in English with Spanish we have it black and white and a color these utilize QR codes cuz again that's probably the most efficient way to get for a website if you're using a phone and only talks about digital resources that we went over but I really also goes over the whole portal as well to give them information about what they can find on it and then we also have it in color in English and Spanish as well so by all means going to print these out give a your parents we talked earlier about you know with the digital resources bad resources themselves how a lot of people print them out and send them home they just it's a great way to to send it home with him and and utilize it another great way is like at night or title one night just getting a whole group of people together printing them out and then just cutting together and stuff in them and zip bags that they can take home that way and utilize it you know it's it's great it can be a really good resource I want to also highlight one of the thing to it to is the fact that if you notice, going back a lot of them a lot of these lessons are vertically aligned so what I mean by that is you know if you have a student in grade 2 that is having trouble with author's purpose one likely than not that resource that same lesson is going to exist in the grade level too low so as you can see in great one author's purpose is there too so try to make it so that they're there vertically align so that you have a great two will have a great one and then also great for you so that was that your student is having trouble they can drop down a grade level in a certain Lassen and it's Ed meet them at their level but let's see if you know reading words part one is a lesson at the little too easy for him then they can move up to grade 2 it was already open and you see that the reading word part 1 lesson is there too so another thing to consider there is is the fact that you know you can definitely customize your child's Learning lesson by lesson make sure that they're getting the most out of this at they possibly can and I can't emphasize enough that we do make this with with migratory students in mind but really all students can benefit from these lessons I told story a few times my wife teaches second grade at a Title 1 school and when she had her observation she actually use she is not her strong suit she lies actually a man lesson for small group for small group lesson and she she did fantastic she loved it the students did a great job with it it's just such a great resource just like you see here everything is there and in one easy to find place you don't have to go searching like honestly those of us that have been in the classroom with beast beast lessons remind me of something that you would pay for on Teachers Pay Teachers you know this is innisfree it's completely free anyone to use English and Spanish so I can't say enough good things about this it's such a fantastic program and I'm so glad to share with you all today and I hope that you know it's if you're not in the classroom you can certainly pray and for your for your parents your for your family's the most importantly the students that you serve in your area so they can you no benefit from what it is that we offer here and by all means if we're doing a good job or if there's something we could do better we love hearing from you so please give us that feedback I can't stress that enough that we can do our job so much better when we get that feedback and know what it is that our users need so with that I want to thank you guys so much I know probably spoken as in circles a little bit I apologize for that there's just so much to cover and I'm I'm so hey guys came here today I hope you have gotten a lot from the conference I know certainly I have and so I want to thank you I want to also turn it over to a dahlia to give us some parting words what thank you Jeremy and even though you're right and you're in the midst of the creation of all this I know you get very excited about what we have to offer because it is pretty exciting and it's it's a lot of Pride to be able to show this to you and with you the wonderful resources that we have available a lot of work and a lot of effort is put into this a lot of reviews a lot of conversations and as we've mentioned several times really considering feedback I'm all stakeholders including parents so we truly appreciate you we
