all right well good morning everyone I want to welcome you to the Texas Interstate programs migratory students interested interested coordination Conference of formula does accept my name is dr. Hernandez is having a hard difficult time logging and he'll be here starting but good morning my name is on that I got to see you I'm the recruiter for the college assistance migrant program at utrgv Edinburg good morning my name is Matt Marabella to Logan and I recruited for the High School cheer program at the University of Texas has anyone else join those they might do this a little bit not yet okay so you are at the helping cab presentation so this is the time to leave and you're in the wrong one thank you next flight Miss Andrea we promise to be quick and short I'm going to start real quickly with what has happened Cam and then we will move on to miss Maria Belen sugar who will tell you all about the presentation or what is and then I will go on to the camp qualifications and then we will move on to each specific camp programs across the great state of Texas and we have a special treat Michigan State should be able to join us to tell you about Derby movement here in the great state of Texas and they will the final will probably closing up with questions and answers for everybody else I haven't done a lot of online for the patient in a while so please bear with me but I do throw some questions in the chat I will be glad to answer those questions for you as we go through the presentations if I go to quickly please let me know if I would gracias okay we can get with the next light Miss Andrea so a little bit about us for of you who are new to our family happen Camp we've been around for a long time 1967 and 72 our first program was the high school equivalency program and then after that we needed a place to put ours this will finish the program so cam came about that a few years later 1972 our help program supports over 6,000 students annually helping our out-of-school youth and adults obtain their High School Glen a quality credentials camp on the other hand age approximately 2,400 students during their first year of college with academic personal and financial assistance throughout their first year of college a good majority of our camp students graduate with master degree at a university level I will talk more about this in detail as we get to the presentation but this is just a little bit more about who we are and where we got our starts government grants are funded through a grant from the US Department Education Office of Migrant education just like you are more most of your programs most of our programs are administered by universities colleges and nonprofit organizations Across the Nation Miss Lively so even though this map is a little outdated this is from 2022 and it may not be too clear this just shows you where are high school equivalency programs are a Boston Nation So today we're going to talk mostly about the ones here in Texas cuz we are in Texas but if you are looking for a partner Across the Nation you can see that there's many in the western part of the name but you would be a good start would be make may be making contact with us and we can connect you with some of these programmes across the the great nation so just let us know and we will gladly connect you with some of these programs California have the great majority of these program can definitely connected to some of these programs and some of your students are moving out of the state going somewhere else this is from 2022 Michigan state does a great job at updating this map every year so I think they're scheduled to update it sometime this summer this is the camp map again from the 2022 this is showing the different camp programs from across the nation and see some of them the years it's a little blurry but the years mentioned when they first got to find it so each Grant is funded for a 5-year. So I'm I mean you can pick any one of those it says play 20 20 21 2019 so you can just add five years to that or and that's when they are up for Renewal up for a competition where they will compete again to see they get refunded and that's why these Maps change or may change a lot cuz at that point they have to rewrite again and see if they get refunded again at some point they do get refunded at some point they may not get refunded so that's why it's critical to go to the website and I will give you the website later so you can see the grant got refunded after that five-year period for that area dad current Texas hip projects this year here in Texas we have South Texas College in McAllen Texas the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg Texas the University of Texas at El Paso in El Paso Texas and El Paso Community College in El Paso Texas in with us today we have one representative from the hip program. I just miss Maddy Bella chuga who will now speak to you about the hair programs or at least for a program at the University of Texas at El Paso so miss might even let you get what you tell us about the hair products good morning my name is lightning Academy program designed to meet the special needs of Migrant and seasonal farm work in pursuit of the high school equivalency certificate in your case is that the Department of Education of diamond on this program and is located at the University of Texas at 8 but please help us provide the students with a college experience so that I may want to continue their education by exposing them on campus activities next lightning check served at 70 students annually for Farmers Texas and southern New Mexico thanks to or online classes we can expand our service area and be able to help more students we have to Mango the first that is students entering into complete or obtaining a GED diploma second one was doing cuz my GED diplomas participate in a university in a vocational school obtains a better job or participate in the military there are requirements to be able to participate in the Pro be 17 years old or older there is no limit they can be 40 50 60 years at right now 64 years old do not have a high school diploma have a valid ID can be at 6 driver license or a relative of a fan work give the students. the migrant program gogroove that person who needs to register is apparent they must pretend document that broke that can work next this is the services that we provide and remember that you services are free for the student classes in English and in Spanish in person and online textbooks to school supplies 220 North time find classic financial assistance for tasting please housing when the student need it right now we don't have these services available because next time next time I said we had milk when the student takes a sunglasses bus passes educational and cultural activities by weekly stipend compare loan if the student and pretty graduation ceremony we also have a little orange station where the students learn they Personnel earn in style time management skill. presentation from different agency preparation for school for The Next Step at like a visit to University and financial support next lovely before you moved when we do have a question in the chat and I believe it was in reference to one of the slides prior to that it says does the 75 days have to be decorative or in total for the past 24 months okay so the way I help with to the students with employment assistant interviews and complete your application will give us plenty interesting and please financial literacy education and yes this is time we have for graduation for a Coby remember we don't have a good morning my wife have a photos for that student and next line This is my information if you have any questions or if you have a student who went to the commander I don't know you have Christian right now Bank of America thank you thank you Miss lechuga okay so do you all think of any questions for her program she will stay on board and I guess at the end we can also go there we go. whole presentation so we are going to move on to the cam presentation I'm so I'm going to take over a little bit and then I'm going to pass it on to our other Camp presenters sew-in in overall the camp program is designed to serve students from migraine or seasonal Farm worker families also that's why we're related it that's why I was going to come to happen camper each year we start participants at over 50 to institutions of higher education across the country we showed the map with you earlier we assess students in their first year of college with academic personal and financial support continue a post-secondary education institution not all camp programs are exactly the same as long as we provide academic personal financial support each program is written to put it in a different manner different way we all write four different number of students based on budget based on support based on the needs of each Community each day each area so that's why it's broken will tell you exactly what they do with their students differently and like I said earlier each Camp each Camp Off the difference between experience so hopefully you'll hear the difference in each program presentation differently and we're all funded at five year cycle intervals differently awesome and a list of current can project can be found this website are this as far as I know this website is more accurate than the maps this one has the current can program spend it it list the current directors and the term recruiters from me to the camp projects Across the Nation so I think it should be provide our services a little different to our students even though we're based on the needs of each student these are the measures that we are graded on by Department of Ed that we present back to the apartment to bed we promise at 6% of our students that go to our program will complete their first year of a post-secondary program or a person or School in in our program so every service we provide every intervention that we do everything we're doing with our student to meet this goal that 86% of our students will complete their first year at University studies and not only that but our second measure says that out of those 86% students 92% of those will continue on University students for a second year of college so this is what we're this is how we continue to be funded in this wood will report to Department of Education as a camp program Across the Nation so this is our general chem qualifying criteria so how would your students or how our students qualify to be in Camp so this is just to qualify this doesn't automatically get them into a program this is just to let them know that they would meet the qualifying criteria I know this is so like being in the map protecto you're automatically in in this program we all right for different number so this would just basically say you do the criteria to get in now we need to make sure that you're going to be part of our University program so a student or the immediate family member must have engaged in a minimum of 75 days during the past 24 months as a migrant Farm worker so we do share that with a head pro but like I said earlier they do not have to be consecutive but then please look at this section where it says or or a student must have formally participated in or be eligible to participate in migrant education program as long as they were in the map program at any part or any time in their lifetime they would also Park be able to be eligible for the camp program so if they come from map then they could also be part of camp or they could have been student must have been formally protest read it or be eligible to participate in the n f j p program to any one of those three they would qualify to be part of the camp program thank you mister Miranda we do have a question in the chat make love to that it says Miss let you guys you mentioned online classes is that offer to All Med students across Texas or only two students in El Paso when I see that she just responded online classes are offered to all students perfect thanks that is awesome that the question I had to that is awesome awesome so this when we we do different from our help sister program for the camp program our student must be a legal permanent resident or US citizen for the camp program so here we do different that section also I stood must be admitted to the university as a first-year student they must also be enrolled as full-time student at the University College 12 credits or four classes or more and they should also demonstrate academic Financial or Trenta I support native signs with the need to demonstrate some kind of a neat way to be able to be qualified to be in the camp program so these are the other qualifying criteria to be in the camp program so as they come from you to ask these are some of the things that our recruiters will be look to work with you to transition your students into our programs are applications are written in the way to try to get this information into our program or in for them to qualify to be in our programmes and I think that this when I had Miss Andrea this is a fine want to help so these are the current Texas camp programs in our state and our out-of-state partners that we have here in Texas we have seen Edwards University in Austin Texas the University of Texas Rio Grande Edinburg campus and Brownsville campus so we have to West Texas A&M and University in Canyon Texas El Paso Community College El Paso Texas Texas State technical Technical College in Harlingen Texas the University of Houston Houston Texas in Michigan State University in East Lansing in Michigan that one covered me a join us but he is listed here because they do a lot of recruiting here in Texas to take students back to Michigan so I'm hoping he was able to join us to this one I'm hoping he was able to join us to this one. There is a question in the in the meantime it says when you say formally participated in math is there a maximum of recent years at EG no longer than 5 years ago for example no there is not there is not a normal thing find the migration history or as long as I can find that Tob of some sort there is not for the for the camp program there is not good questions thank you so now I'm going to pass it on to Andrea Andrea who will talk about a program at utrgv Edinburg thank you hello good morning my name is on that I got to see him and the recruiter for the college assistance migraine program at UT at the University of Texas Road Valley the Edinburg campus I'm going to be sharing with you as some of our program and a highlighting the different services that we offer to the students alright so here's some of the services for utr we are better Bergkamp students are first and foremost our program except about up to 70 students annually so one of the services that we have for our students is individualized academic advising I always like mentioning to our students that are advisor of is there as a resource aside from utrgv advisement also there are life skills seminars that are weak seminars that our students attend with other Camp students and this is led by our masters level out counselor here at the camp program we also have individualized your mentoring and personalized tutoring monthly informational meetings at one of the great things that our program offers our Reserve academic resources essentially anything that the student may need any tools academic resources laptops lab coats goggles calculators essentially anything that they might need if we don't have it we do try to get it for the student that way they are successful in their courses are we also have counseling services is our counselor student involvement event at we could partake in that throughout the semester and at throughout the year with Camp also we do have a camp in Edinburgh are we like to make it as homie as possible here we have a full Lounge for students with study rooms computer labs individualized excuse me private study rooms allow and with the fridge microwave air fryer anything that you can think of so we would we like her students to feel like they are at home you know in our camp center as well as we do have educational and cultural field trips are there's also a paid internship that opportunity that I will go ahead and discuss further I'm in the next few slides and then horse any financial aid application Assistance or any assistance in completing any verification items as a resource for the students if they need help with their utrgv applications with their FASFA some students come to us and they need help just deciding what they need and although they're not can students yet there is pre-comp advisement where they meet with our camp advisor mr. Jaime Garza and he's able to assist the students with their needs so essentially we're here as a resource for students throughout their tree addition of course if students are thinking about various institutions I do connect them to other account programs I work for utrgv but it's more of a networking tool as well for the student that way they end up making the decision that is best for them as they transition into post-secondary education all right so I'm going to go ahead and talk about training stipends as so being part of Camp a we do offer students monetary assistance as so they must be eligible in good standing they may receive a monthly stipend that can be used for meal gas bugs other personal expenses we do have mandatory meetings up for the students and if they're in good standing and they attend those training meeting then they receive a monthly stipend theater deposit that money like I mentioned can be used for any educational expenses or personal as well we also have a stem internship with our STEM Center here at UT area so eligible have students who complete the camp Edinburgh stem internship program may receive a training stipend so I may receive an additional $400 if they do come see that's them internship so here we have our two of our students who did the the stem internship as well as this is one of our monthly meetings so it's in a group session and we do have our camp students we usually invite a presenter to share resource does any information with our student all right so I'm just going to share some Edinburgh requirements so students in order for them to be offered at a warrant they must be accepted at prg be although they must be accepted at utrgv they can complete their Camp application by applying to the university so while they're in the process of being accepted say that they are still standing in their unofficial transcripts and so forth they are able to apply but the first step is for them to be able to apply once they apply then they're able to receive utrgv credentials and from there they are able to complete the cab application our camp application is housed in the scholarship Universe portal which I will go ahead and discuss in the next slide are they must be US citizens or permanent must have a high school graduate or equivalent so and you students I go through the head program can also be admitted into the utrgv camp program as well they must enroll full-time purse Meister 12 or 15 credit hours which is about four or five courses and must complete the fall and spring semesters with passing grades so once they complete those two semesters and they complete their year with cats here are you did you become Edinburgh we are a one-year program but that just means that students are considered some Scholars and are eligible for the stipends throughout the first year that doesn't mean that the subsequent years that they don't receive support are we always welcome former Camp students here at our camp center and they are still able to receive any of the other Support Services all right so how can the students apply a flying is easy a students can apply simultaneously to over 300 on campus scholarships and yes campus one of them can Edinburg please serve up to 70 students each year as first-time college students at utrgv applications are processed on a first-come first-serve basis okay so once we start receiving applications which we are we are currently at applications for the upcoming year I will if the student did not include any documentation for migrant status that has a c o e excetera I will reach out to the districts and obtain that information or to the region to try to see if they have that migrant history background as so this is just a snippet of how the application looks so for instance I made a profile my cell with my utrgv credentials and I answered the four questions I was a US citizen I had completed my FASFA and I had intention of attending full time and it match me to 172 scholarship so many of our students that complete their application for Camp actually are able to get into they are able to receive other scholarships within the university now this is most of these scholarships are internal but there's also a external so this is where our camp application is house pictures of very quickly someone in the chat if you might share address in ranking if you don't know where we are located we are located in the tip of Texas right here in the Border region are we do have two schools to campus has two primary campus and we have one at in Edinburg and one in Brownsville they are both located here in this region and so these are just some rankings that we have received within the past year so first in Texas for Louis price of attending our first in Texas for performance of Pell eligible students second in the nation for lease student debt and then also elected Community engagement classification so are we also I did at the school of Podiatry and we do have a school of medicine as well so if any of your students are interested in becoming doctors study any of those medical fields we do have vast programs in so they will share a little bit more about their program I believe we have Andrew mr. Rodriguez rates well hello everyone my name is no other time the program director or the camp program on the Brownsville campus Brownsville about an hour away from the our Edinburgh campus we're right at the border there's two ports of Entry here that are minutes away from our offices so we are live show me at the tip of Texas so the camp program in Brownsville is funded to serve 45 students we are funded through 2027 ancient the G come in five-year increments so I will the Grant in 2022 we were funded and we are good through 2027 here with me I have Android. who is the camp recruiter if you little bit old school where we hand out paper applications and do fillable PDFs so we are actually Andrews working on I'm moving on application online so we're going to go into the modern Century at some point so what do we do well was the best part of the best part about your students and Camp is that we are one University to camp program so all you have to do as a student if you're accepted by UT you can apply to both camp programs one in Edinburgh and one in in Brownsville and actually we were the first institution in the country to have to camp programs at one institution so there's a little bit of history with that as Mister my down to mention there are some differences not every can't program instead of exactly so what I wanted to do is highlight our services because the requirements are still the same eligibility requirements is still the same as well as having to be full-time legal resident or citizen at cetera also if you are student is in Medford you're eligible to apply but I wanted to highlight some of our services on the Brownsville campus then we can start with the camp Camp lab as you can see it's a picture of Arlo it is for our students only it is for Camp students Sony so out of our entire institution on campus in Brownsville only our students are able to come to the camp. and that's for our current students and those that complete the program former Camp students are always invited to the camp lab so what's in the lab we set it up as much as a family environment possible we know that our program works so many times we just got to draw the students and by offering this comfy Atmosphere by computers tables your printer etcetera we have snacks in one of our staff's offices we have a coffee maker refrigerator so initially students will come by to meet with Mentor titular but over time I need to come by just to hang out or meet up with friends with whom they met with in Camp or to have lunch or to come in between classes after clampus I mean after classes four classes we have a huge bean bag in a corner so some students like to find that place for a little nap time but it's a comfy environment when so we will offer it to the students so let's talk about financial help we do provide financial assistance as again I mentioned we serve 45 students in Camp in Brownsville so that's one of it's one of the subtle differences between the Edinburgh campus end up Brownsville campus as we serve your students and we serve 45 every year on new cohort so what type of financial aid or provide because we serve a smaller amount of students and our budgets are annual budget is $475,000 per year we were able to pretty much guarantee every students how to receive a stipend as long as they are participating as long as they're active and by being active and participating that means attending your Mentor meetings or tutor meetings are monthly meetings so there is there is an opportunity for students to receive up to $100 per month direct deposit it is well we are also able to offer to pay all books for all classes I've been able to say that for the last since I started about the 14 years ago because of our budget I've been able to say that and we have not never once been able to purchase a book for students course so we're continuing that that that that trend of being able to offer and comfortably say we can provide all your books for all your class so now they're moving on to online codes we also order supplies such as goggles lab coats subscriptions you know a lot of Faculty is moving over to online subscriptions to do coursework so that's kind of a big thing and we make it really easy for them all the students don't even have to go to the bookstore the bookstore received our order that gather the materials we literally go pick my predict bring them back and students just have come to the lab sign them out really easy so monthly stipends books for courses supplies and one of our Specialty Services is our ability to provide dorm scholarships so we have up to we have room in the budget to pay for the 20 students to live on campus housing our campus housing is called Casas Bahia not your traditional dorms there more like apartment units you'll see in a picture and a couple minutes but we are able to pay for a double for the fall and spring semester for the been so basically on year and so are the cost is almost $2,000 per semester for the dorm so they didn't students do they have quite a bit of money if they are are from out of town so do we have students from out of town we have many students locally but we also have students from as far as Houston Laredo Texas and so we encourage anyone who would like to especially those of you who may be out of town we definitely encourage you to come in and visit us set up an appointment will do a tour with your account presentation your students will meet other students I do get a tour of the dorm so see it for themselves I always like to say that when students come to visit our campus our dorms seal the deal like on top of everything on top of everything we all for the dorms you didn't seal the deal what are the services that we provide a one-on-one help we do offer tutors we we hire our own tutors we offer mentoring we do hire our own mentors and most of our members are former Kim students who like to give birth I can meet with the students are those those activities are mandatory students must meet with their tutor in the renter each week so that they may receive their participation stipend we make it mandatory because we know it works and so we also of course Opera selection with courses help with the financial aid application but really when students apply we began working with students even though they may not be accepted yet by utrgv and over the summer prior to their first year of college we start preparing them training them having to come in having them understand what their accounts is how to use the account there Blackboard account we start working with them as soon as June July August before our camp orientation and so that's a very important activity as well as a lot of training and there's a lot of development that happens so what all the extras we do cultural education activities we did a 10 the payment conference in McAllen last fall we took 14 students and they were able to participate leadership conference me all the students from other camp programs so was a great experience and so we also have activities throughout the semester and things up a little bit so I will be having a movie night so before the end of the and so little things like that kind of add up to experience and of course students get a t-shirt just from Camp to get to meet other people make new friends so we have a lot of students who come in from a smaller District having not met any friends here but you have friends and and people looking out for you to do the the minute you're here next line please so I had to say the last night here just wanted to ensure show off our our our our our dorms does it mention its kind of apartment living its 1 units it's one apartment with four units of bedrooms basically in each I need your part you can see a picture of that I also we put in a picture of our police cars police vehicles utrgv police in Brownsville is literally at the darts so you know we like to let our parents know that's if you know when I send their their kids to us and their salmon campus we have not security but utrgv police right at the dorms that's there for 4 for them and you know the price of a little bit of comfort so we can send you maybe we can put the link for the Castlevania video tour Andrew in the chats so if you would like to apply Andrew is the I've missed your anniversary so we do quite a bit of Recruitment and state of Texas Florida and of course the state of Michigan and those are the areas that I'm in charge of Texas so it's a big benefit that I definitely have an opportunity to really travel all over the state of Texas enforce contact information email address telephone number so anyway that we could definitely help please let us know I'm happy to share a little bit about our program but we're always looking to connect with families with students and most important just showing some of the Opera these are out there a little bit about you so I can make some and you have 400 different areas of study so I can't sense could participate in any of the programs that we have available at Michigan State University and something to note is that we do have a lot of Sunset doing their best Masters PhD or even professional degrees at Michigan State possibility up University looks like please something that we get to do with all of our first year students size is study abroad so right now we're about to take our freshman students to Mexico for spring break this year we're going to three different cities I want to call hakka Oaxaca Oaxaca made that you can find other places to study abroad at Michigan State listen to more of these study about programs at Michigan state has to offer and I were all so excited to announce that we recently opened up a program in Puerto Rico during the month of May so our students have the opportunity to travel to Puerto Rico get us horses in part of it again is just really showing its without they what's available and that's something that I could definitely I'll participate in it will go into the next slide a little bit about one of the main benefits that camp students get at me State just for being part of a program file regardless if they are out-of-state students they are still eligible for in-state tuition that's a big plus I would Stephanie allows us to recruit out-of-state all the things that we work with listen to come out of state to get the in-state tuition in terms of the financial aid package of course can be based on each individual student at the university has recently announced a new financial aid package adds the first time ever going to happen from Boston Mass for 20 for selecting student making under $65,000 they're eligible for free tuition at Michigan State but we are going to have more details about that's the first year that we have his financial package and something that will do with any student any find me that we have met are we do have time the orientation so I will come to the student the family hopefully in person that is always to go over financial aid seeing what they qualify for financial aid also to we have to go and safety anything the family needs to know to know that is always something will do in person but we do have some texts Florida Michigan and we always try to do that with some students and family. what's the next side timeline we are still taking applications for fall semester 2020 for some citizens Bill eligible to apply usually our application closes in April or May if I normally year seems like this year the University's application will close probably sometime in April that's what I'm hearing from the outside of mission but if it doesn't cost doesn't close in April we are able to take applications up to Neighbors the way that students can apply there is three applications there is the common application Michigan State University and the Coalition application the only required one application that is the Michigan State University application. Cuz there are questions regarding a that application that gives us all the information that we need to determine if something is eligible for the camp what application there is a few members have to apply for the Frito pie to Michigan State music wave of $65 throughout the application process and anything that's what it means in terms of the application documents I'm always happy to help out with that part. We are residential programs all of her students live in the dorm the first year here in Holden Hall we work directly out of Holden hall or the sentence. We worked out of and the students are required to stay on campus or two that I should say University requirement that they have silencers and that's going to really depends do it they can stay in Holden Hall they can move to a different dorm if they want to but we do have quite a bit of different dorms across campus and that's something to that again will cover with the family so that's always a big question Housing Works where they lived us will have that information available to them and I will look and Argo is still our students graduate and I myself was a student part of I graduate in 2016 was most of our director or I could make it a lot easier if we were all part of the camp program students have the opportunity to go to Michigan State and now we're goes to show this happens we have been working with the state of 4/24 years ago we started and we thank you so much for that support cuz without your support we wouldn't be able to get some respect here with his graduation from the University so thank you so much as always I'm happy to help any way that I can contact information with her and I will also put her application Link in the chat box if anybody has any question Hot Wheel of Fortune Ilia there is one question in the chat it says not sure if you mentioned this or not but what are the college Sam requirements for admission and does not want to us all we needed advice for transcript whisper CPA the bus and I have taken so we are test optional and that is up to 2026 I believe.
