hear me good hopefully I'm going to see if I can see your faces and I'm in a random hotel in DC and so I have this air conditioning thing right next to me that keeps going I'm worried that you're here at my hopefully you do not so alright so let me know my slides up agency it so hopefully I have a treat for you so the last time we introduced the student family portal. all we have and now we have some new resources so I'm going to share kind of both of those and I'll try to pay attention to your questions and so quick question can you see any anything weird on my slider you seeing any black spots or anything from okay notebook perfect so thank you for joining us today my name is Jessica Castaneda I work with the ibrc Consortium which Texas is a member of and so if you're new to this there are a ton of resources that we available for you and one of my favorite ones is this resource that we're going to share today and so let's just go ahead and jump in and then we're also going to share some AT&T Grant resources that we got through the achiever because now we're going to partner them together I'll explain that process if in case you guys want access to that also so before we get started I always like to remind and I are you know this but sometimes we wind up working with different states and it seems like the quality of what we're providing sometimes can be men and so we are always wanting to remind people that we want to make sure that the whole purpose of my grenet is to make sure that the students have the same opportunities to graduate and Excel as their peers and we want to really be making a difference with the kids that are in the program I know that I didn't really complicated and then sometimes it takes all of our efforts to be able to just find we want to make sure that we're able to really do something so just real quick I'm so they're all on the same page if you will use the chat box I just open the chat to be able to see going to figure out what his services and so you tell me what risk if this is a service or not number one a migrant recruiter signs of a student and then bring some flyers to invite the family to attend a reading night that is coming up so let's say it's a and you're looking to determine whether this was a service or not I want you to think yay or nay is this the service yes or no you don't have to put your answer in the chat box but if you want to you can number to I want an answer on this one a my recruiter hands out hygiene bags when he's times up a new osy service or not put it in the Box check so is that something that you would count as a service like in the summer you've now provided a service to this child k Marisol you're giving me hope there's only what know Raquel you're going to be okay next question a migrant recruiter gives out a towel some soap gloves and shampoo when here signs of a new family yes or no service or not now when I'm counting service I mean this could actually be something that you're going to put in the csb hours and that yes this child was served by my grenade see you no no no okay now is it something the family could benefit from receiving yes but is it a service at according to our rules so one more shooter tells his family about an upcoming e l l less than offered by my head when she signs the family serve or not yes or no okay she just tells them about it so you're saying yes that's a service all right so we're a little bit a little bit all over I want to read something because I think it gets lost sometimes with all are things it says here what are Services services are a subset of all the activities that MEP provides through its programs and projects services are the following number one directly benefits in my grandchild number 2 address is in need of the my grandchild consistent with the Seas comprehensive needs assessment and Service delivery plan number three is grounded in scientifically based research or in the case of supported service support services are generally accepted practice a number for are designed to enable the program to meet its measurable outcomes and contribute to the achievement of the state's performance Target so if you think about those things I just mentioned giving a flyer or giving out a bag so far you got a able to see where on Earth is that fit so it says here why it is important for local operating agencies to provide services of sufficient intensity and operating the operating MEP it is important to design services that are self-sufficient and intensity provide reasonable promise of the Project's ability to meet its measurable outcomes and turn the attainment of these outcomes enables a program to help migrant children succeed in school and contribute to the achievement of the state performance targets sell a service activities related to identification recruitment activities parental involvement program evaluation professional development are allowable but they are not considered services so you mean a family you give him a bag at the time of you know when you sign them that's part of recruitment that's not a service that's the something you should do is just good practice another example would be handing out leaflets to migrant students unavailable reading programs as part of an effort to increase the reading skills and my grandchildren this is allowable but it's not a service because it does not meet all the criteria question a one does not directly benefit the my grandchild it's not grounded and scientifically based research and end of itself ability will not increase children's reading skills and therefore increase their ability to meet the state's performance targets I just want to throw this out there because I feel like sometimes we have really water down what what actually is a service to our families and so we want to go back to really making sure that we're looking at the needs that our students have we're looking at our needs assessment were looking at our search Service delivery plan there are plenty of allowable movies that we can do that will help our families but that doesn't mean that you're like hey these kids were served we're done you want to make sure that that you're continuing to offer high-quality resources and that you're able to offer high-quality services so make sure you're familiar with your needs assessment your state Delivery Service delivery plan you want to know what your needs that your students to your families have you want to ensure that your offering high-quality effective services and ID and arm and a bag and a couple flyer should not be all that migrant families are so we like to share you notes helpful to have something that when you show up I know he's a lot of your instructor so when I get to the portal here in just a second but in some states were seeing that recruiters maybe just handing out a few things and they make cement 15 minutes and do a quickie a cell and they're saying this is served and that is definitely not what my granddad is about that could be a great beginning chance that they got recruited and they got a little information for the program that they should get a lot more sense of these are things that can be given out in the process of ID in Arbor they definitely are not a service like that you're saying hey this family was served we don't need to do anything else so resources you know hygiene supplies colon supplies books to learn English language dictionary things like that are great at the time of recruitment but we definitely want to be doing more so I'm going to drop this into the chat box real quick we just have some links of that can go along we have I'm going to drop this I'm trying to get my put my zoom trying to find the last thing that I had in here this is not working so let me see if I can get this I think you guys will get this lives so that mean may just right now my computer is come on yes Jessica they will be posted to the tmip conference page so we have some books on our website that you guys can you we're going to jump into the water like I promised here in just a second I want to make sure that you all know that this is their because I just talked about thanks it or not services but I want to make sure you know that these things are easy to share and it shouldn't take any of your resources but if you go I want our web page we have something called to learn English and I'll drop the same here and so when you're signing up families and they're brand new we have some books that they can use and these are they have some audio and they also have the phonetics in English in Spanish and we got a bunch of different resources we also have resources for Farmers wanting to learn Spanish someone you learn English whatever it is that is there but we also have a whole bunch of English plans to be able to teach English with those books and that's the first link that we that we've seen so now let me start talking to you a little bit about the portal so this portal was created I guess I believe it was last year I take you to the portal instead of my slides let me see when you get to picture this and get out of this so I can actually see it sorry having technical difficulties this morning when you go to our website you'll be able to see if you scroll down you'll be able to see the learning portal so you click on here this is what it looks like right here at the top we have different languages that you can turn it in you can basically if you're working with a family you're introducing this to them they can pick the language that they want to see and that will then change automatically the whole content so they can be able to see that here and so we wanted to make sure that families really easily use this and see it so let me talk a little bit about the the why we have this and kind of a thought process when we created this so we realize that with instruction in my grenet sometimes it's done by a certified teacher sometimes it's done by a parapro sometimes it's done by a recruiter who is now learning how to give instruction and what happens many times is when you go into the home the parents will mention some of the challenges that their kids are having maybe they're having a really hard time learning to read maybe they're they're not what to do with a preschooler and they're not sure if they're like ready for school and so the idea of this portal was to create since covid happened in there were so many new resources that were online to create a tool that you could share with family is that with the access of more devices with a lot of people having access to Internet that if they wanted to be able to have their child learn different things while they're using those devices at home that they would be able to know where they might be able to find some helpful educational resources and then tools had to be something that was free something that was easy to access and didn't require like a log on to be able to access that so yesterday I was looking in has a couple links that I need to fix so if you run into a link if that's not working please email me and let me know because we have on these we have linked to a whole bunch of other websites but of course with any website they may do a redesign and so our link could go bad and is so we want to make sure that we keep those updated so the way that we've designed this is we have different grade so we have Pre-K which is ages 3 to 5 we have grades K through 2 G 325 grade 6 to 8 G 9 to 12 out-of-school youth we've got some extra things like some Virtual Field Trips we have a section for parents a section for teachers which. Which we have trackable website football talk about in a bit and then we have a summer Learning Link and so I'm going to kind of walk you through some of these different resources and kind of the thought process and why you know you can use that with them if you have any questions feel free to put those in the chat box and we'll try to try to pay for the car to be able to make sure that you're we can answer those I can get this so all of the sites would be the kind of things that kids could be able to go to and it would be interesting to them so we also wanted him to tie back to instead of just interesting sites for kids that would tie back to academic subjects for K through 12 kids we want to know be free and wanted to be something that if you were to put your own child on or kid that you're working they're not going to get bored with those very easily they're going to be able to look at the different subjects and be able to find interesting things there so the idea really started several years ago Iowa Iowa make my grenade program was doing a summer program where they had a summer feeding program into my grandkids would come in for summer feeding to have lunch or breakfast and they wanted they had a computer lab right next to the where they were offering food and they wanted to have some high-quality sites that the kids could work on maybe while they if their parents drop them off for the food or if that they can just spend an hour on you know in their computer lab and so I did some work with Iowa and kind of created one and then in Tennessee was also over a whole bunch of after-school programs and we kind of made our own of what we wanted the skills that we were seeing that kids were really having a hard time with and so we would have them go on to the portal that we created such a mess their idea and mesh my ideas and then we made a way either one with the new one that that we have through idrc so a lot of these you really want to get to know you want to go and you want to look at him and you want to see what it is that way you can kind of Point kids to the ones that are your favorites and ones that you really and to be able to use we also want to make sure that people know how to use that language widget so it will only work on the site our side for so for a parent maybe they have a child that's having a hard time to read and so they can go through and read the descriptions of each one site and then be able to click on that once you click on that it's going to lose that extra language is just going to go up to the outside source to that particular site so many of these are game-based to can go and practice and then as they get older High School level it's more of kind of teaching yourself tutorial kind of based maybe they're in there in algebra and they're wanting to be able to teach themselves some different things that and so it's easy ways that they built these tutorial so that key could actually use those himself so content sections we start breaking them down to the grade levels and which I just showed you and then once you get there there are reading language arts science social studies math and and so I probably should put a but go ahead and share this and drop the Lincoln just so if you haven't played with it you can go ahead and play with us there so let me just kind of walk you through some of the things that we really liked about it and so if you open up the K through to we're thinking a lot of kids are learning to learning to read learning to write and so if you open this up you'll be able to see some information about math so you'll be able to click on it and this is the part that would be in the language you know that of choice for the families and so we've got things that are going to ABC and it has tons and tons of games that they can do we've got if you go by I'm sorry my screen is going to be sorting information we've got lots of different games so you want to kind of go down here see which ones you like know which ones know what your kids need and so if you're an instructor in your working with this in in tutoring time you can kind of pick out Hills and pick out games for them to do if you're working with families and you're not sure and they're giving you just hey they need help with math you want to kind of be familiar with the things that are on here and maybe pick out some of your favorite games and so we have math and then we go to reading and so on reading we have a lot of focus for them to be able to listen to books being read and so you got also some reading bear learning you know practicing sounds phonetics Starfall has some resources start believe that they have a bunch of free resources and then they also have a paid one so we have linked to the free ones one of my favorite ones is Storyline Online they do tons and tons of books that are read that you can listen and it's kind of a little bit animated so we often will have kids be able to listen and read and so it's read by different actors are read by the person who created the story and the author themselves FunBrain has a bunch of books as kids get older that if they don't have a library they don't have access they have some some of their favorites that are on there like Diary of a Wimpy Kid things like that they can go on and they can listen and they can also choose to not listen and just to read it themselves so we just kind of pick some of our favorite ones for reading or writing and I won't go through every single one of each one of these I just want to just kind of see how it setup for riding there a few storyjumper for example you can do your own books online there's a free tool that you can have your students kind of develop their characters and actually write a book online and be able to see it there are some typing games and phonics games vocabulary games a bunch of different writing game so we do the same thing through each level split but it's different games based on the grade levels based on the skills science same kind of thing you're looking at I think for these little guys we have doctor Universe National Geographic a lot of videos that can really listen about interesting science Concepts pbskids social studies we kind of go through and sometimes you'll see a few of the sites that will be on both because the work good you'll see it like a man grade level split like Wonderopolis I think we use again some of these are just like National Geographic tools that you can learn about different states so there's a comment but there's a lot of resources you have to kind of learn them you definitely want to pick out your favorites so that if you're in producing you can kind of say I really like this or something that you know that your students will really really want to use we have some stem activities and so we've got some things about codeine we've got NASA we've got Design Squad has a lot of really cool I'm activities they can do and then we've got code.org and these are for a little guy so these were in a very simple for the tiny ones and so that's kind of a very fast overview of like a fruit cake or 2/3 we do similar things but it's just the next great up the next Chunk Up of Dean of the skills that they that they would need to know so we still have storyline for example but then we start doing some news articles from different places we have magazine from all over the world they have digital libraries to be able to pick books that are for those grade levels got storybook adventures time does interesting articles that are based for kids that are current events but it's it's 4 3rd to 5th graders maybe see I has a bunch of reading games so same kind of thing with each one and then we realize that sometimes kids now at this point are doing science fairs or how can you come up with ideas until we have more simulations more they can use for projects we've got some weather kind of things I think scratch we've got some scratch tools here under stand which is a coding pretty easy coding tool science these were some of our favorites like the ology go in there and study all of these different learn more about these different ologies and Science Buddies this one is really good for science projects there are lots of just interesting videos and lots of experiments and just things in general. can learn science Concepts through fun videos and so we move on to how we change from six through eight so once we get to six or eight we still have the original ones that we had but we start adding careers and so that is something that sometimes we wait too late to start talking about careers with our students until they're already in like 11th or 12th grade and we find it 6 to 8 they're starting to think about it they're wondering what to do so we've got some interesting resources from the Bureau of Labor Statistics about what kind of jobs are needed in different places and what kind of career since you can we've got Roadtrip nation which is kind of an interesting video series about different types of jobs there is a career girls that's focused on girls kind of jobs there's some called jumpstart I guess or something in the waiting room if you guys can you can let her in jumpstart their this is how much money you need to earn in the future and so this is kind of an Christian reality check tool of let's see if I can close this year to see what kind of lifestyle that they want to have you know like do you want to live with your parents or do you want to have your own apartment do you want to are you going to pay your own utilities and it asking all these questions and then it has them figure out and it'll give him how much life is going to cost so it's kind of a reality check for kids to be able to see kind of what that would different things would cost this is am I my all-time favorite tools and let me tell you the part that I really like so if you go to this website and you get rid of this Explorer my next move has a really cool interesting let's save that students say they want to be like I want somebody put in the chat box a dream job I was going to do the first one that you guys have what's your dream job astronaut so let's see if I can spell astronaut so they have here jobs related to that they have airline pilots flight Engineers commercial it's an aerospace engineers so if you click on these it will then have a video about this particular job will talk about what they do so now I'm on airline pilot instead of instead of an astronaut would tell you what you would do on your job the knowledge that you were need to have the skills the abilities kind of personality you need to do well if you're you would do good if your attention have good attention to detail dependability self-control technology that you might need to know different types of software presentation tells you the salary sometimes when you do job fairs I've had teachers in the past it will don't ask him what they make your middle schoolers will be most interested in what they make but they may not know how that looks related to regular life and that's how that reality check can be really helpful then it tells you what kind of training that you might need it also let you find certifications or training related to that particular job and then it lets you check out your state so it says alright let's say you're in Texas are you guys are and it says there are average opportunities for this in Texas so then you can click on Colorado and it said you have above-average you can actually go here and you can check out a job look for jobs in the particular state that are so we'll look up Texas and you can put in your ZIP code I don't know any zip code somebody give me a zip code 79 416 79416 there's no job openings in your area on this so that is something that they can just go in and see and I really think it's really important for us teach kids lot of times they want to be something else I want to be a teacher when they grow up so let's let's look at that many of you had that desire so the cool thing is they then give you all of these different options for teachers would you possibly maybe a special ed teacher would you want to be a kindergarten teacher would you want to be a middle school teacher let's click on Middle School teachers so it'll click down and see things that you need to know your skills that you need and here's the kind of training that you need and here is the salary so then you can check out how your state Compares see if it gives you it'll let you see the whole thing and used to give the salary for the state when you see if it still does that okay so don't have like anywhere between 45 to 100000 and then you can look at local salary information and it'll give you the difference that in Lubbock it's 49 in United States at 61 in Texas overall at 61 so you also can see comparison of how that that works and so I really like this I've used it a ton of signs with kids we used to do a Leadership Institute with high school kids that one of my fair projects that we ever did and if anyone ever wants the curriculum family share with you we used to have kids be career planners their job was to Career planner and we would give them four five different scenarios and it was a competition so we divide them into groups and the scenario would be a regular life scenario. be there is other older brother sibling or sister that just said you just graduated from from high school you're wanting to go to college and you just found out that your girlfriend's pregnant and you're not sure what to do currently live at home but and then have to come up with the best scenario so they've got to find out okay if they're going to move out where's the cheapest place if they can get rent if they need a new car until a blue book what kind of car could they afford if they have a job what are they making and how much and so with this person killer situation how can you give him the best plan for the next five years like the trajectory of where they could go and so they do a competition between groups and in the meantime you're having them look up you know at rent.com and find the apartments you're having them look up Kelley Blue Book and find an actual car in there Unity for sale that they can afford they're having them not Kelley Blue Book that Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace but then they have to look up on Kelley Blue Book to make sure it's actually worth the amount of time that no money that they're asking and then I have to look at does this kid qualify for any scholarships how much does a local community college or the place that they want to go what jobs are offered in their community that they might already be able to do to be able to set themselves up and so we like to use this with a bunch of other tools to get them to actually learn career planning but through a very Hands-On anything so that's kind of what we were thinking when we started adding going back to this this is an interest profiler where they go in and it's kind of an interesting I know there's a lot of these I particularly like this one just because it just asked you what you would like to do all right on a scale of one to you know you just love it would you like to build kitchen cabinets good would you like to bring lay brick or tile would you like to develop a new washing machine well that might be more fun so it has them go through this and then when they get done it'll give him the kind of things that they seem to like to have done and types of jobs that are related to it some kind of cool to hold it to Savannah and then the cool thing is if you go here and you get rid of this little Explorer thing then you can actually look up some of those jobs and it does suggest it when you get done and this is also me proximo Paso is also in Spanish so you can do the same kind of things this is something you could do with family if you were ever in home to be able to say hey this is what you want to do what do you want to be when you get older and then they can kind of look at some of those the things that there anything could do it with her right there you could do a parent account to talk about it so I got one of my what am I you could do a whole bunch just with that let me go back to where we were I got to go back all these pages okay so this is the new addition that we have for that six through eight group so that you're working as thinking and focusing on that so if you're going back to the rest of them we have we also have stem in this one that's kind of looking more at kind of things that they could do related to Stem different types of projects we have language arts and remember we have in here we have them we have some things about see we got Storybird bacon this is kind of a can still make those books they can that we got BBC News articles we've got New York Times it kind of test their knowledge on current events FunBrain riding and and writing and reading skills storyboard program and Ted has a bunch of things that they can do to kind of listen and learn time for language arts so I think we now put reading and writing together instead of having them separate math we start there still game based but we start having some of the tutorials to help them out in case they are needing help in really having a hard time with different subjects we start to Adam some of the territorial house while still leading leaving a lot of the games that are in there if you guys have any questions please feel free. Just unmute yourself ask them Mental Health Resources we really haven't because we're non-academic there's a lot of mental health that could be something we've added in we really focused on just the core subjects on this but the other resource that I'm going to share with you in a little bit there are some Mental Health Resources on that so straight through 9 through 12 our mentalities change in a little bit a few of these do require my Khan Academy for example does sometimes require an account that the majority of these are still without accounts if you click on math where now meeting about knowing that a lot of kids struggle with algebra and geometry so we're focusing on basic geometry skills brace basic tutorials that they can go to and learn aops online has a whole bunch of videos that are good tutorials kaneki it would have to have an account so if an account is needed we make sure we put that in there Wolfram math has a bunch of tons and tons of tutorials about all different subjects and math and so wise and also does so we're now getting a little bit away from games and more of like if you're struggling with something and you're wondering how to do it here are some good places that you can go we start for language arts they've got how to create bibliographies there's current events there's some writing games we've got information about novels and different there's a bunch of word vocabulary words and changes in games that they could do there we have Exploring Careers we've got some new ones here we are next step you which is helping you figure out what college might want to go to doing some career planning maybe you're wanting to be a teacher and then you're wanting to look at scholarships and looking at what schools cost so next up you and careeronestop have Resources with that I'm career Village is a cool one that you can actually ask doctors about their job or you can ask school counselors about their job and they'll respond about someone that works in that profession and they'll let you give you information and then we had a whole section about college prep so included are here in our College Navigators find the best school for your based on your needs there's a tool called mapping your future to learn how much you need to save and kind of plan next Fu fastweb this is where they can go and get scholarship matching tools that you can put your you know what you want to study were you wanting to go and it'll let you know of all those it'll send an automatic email update of all of those different types of scholarships that kids are eligible for their unigo also has that you have a CT prep resources and pasta and then resources from the college board so again we're focusing you know we didn't have mental health in this cuz we're really just focusing on the the cake just the K through 12 subjects I know that that Natalie is an issue in a lot of things where you can cut a lace that through that we also have a section on OS why I know there is a whole nother Consortium that does does Northwest why ours was based on the idea that the only way I could do these things by themselves and so knowing that osy range and skills from me I have only got maybe two third grade and some have gone all the way up to 11th grade we have all different kinds of things we've got basic math we got Math Playground that has games on all different things we've got Khan Academy weave tutorials we've got the Mexican Government resources that have four Mathematica some guy selling Spanish on math skills if they're wanting to learn different skills and they can kind of follow along with that tutorial read and from there we put in here some of it is learn to read what is vocabulary some of its listening in some of its videos and practice this one's kind of a cool one of your teaching ESL news in levels if you go here you have level 1 level 2 in level 3 and so they have current current events but you can click on here so here's the world's largest copper mine they can listen to the story so he's got all the words right there this to be good for yourself it's too and then there's a level 2 so and then there's level 3 and so what it is simplifying the words for level 1 they're little bit more complex for level to a little bit more complex for level 3 and so you can you can you can listen and so that's one that can be helpful and so this can be something that they can act oh I'm sorry I'm going back to where it was gcfglobal has a bunch of tools that you can listen and read and check your comprehension and then there's some board games that you can do and so one of my favorite ones is that language resources that we have here these are a lot of picture dictionaries and resources like my formatting so long key right there there's some pronunciation guides lots of Pictionary type tools there are some of course there's there's a link to Duolingo which is in a pretty good to be able to do that USA learns has a bunch of resources in both English and Spanish are life skills is set on Kelley Blue Book on rent. come on worker protections and pesticides on some practical money skills most of these are both in English and Spanish medlineplus for example is both in English and Spanish it's just kind of looking if you're not feeling good this is rather just Googling these are some just really good information that's on their Craigslist learning how to cook and exchange rates so these are things that might be helpful for out-of-school youth we do have some hiset resources so this could be helpful for your students there these are fine program some of the practice test some of the Khan Khan Academy support videos that are specifically for hiset and then some links to like camping high school equivalency program so if anyone has any questions let me know attention chat box section on Virtual Field Trips so this was maybe your you know you're doing some tutoring in home and you want them to be able to see a different place in the world are upon it is a pretty cool resource they have whole bunch of the 360 videos photos and so let's say we want to go on an Antarctic expedition you can go here and click and be able to see any of these places they have tons of these take the helicopter view for example and let you see different things it's a simple thing but sometimes you can tie that to your social studies lessons you can kind of see we also have Dollar Street which I think is a really cool resource so let's say you're one how much it cost to live in the Philippines so there's a video about the family and then you can say you want to visit this family and then it will show videos and information what their monthly income is with the family lives in what their house looks like what they eat what they are or what they listen to what their favorite toys are and it's just kind of a chance to go all over the world and and see how people live and it's really well done so you can you can see you can ideas with a lot of different things so I personally really like this one so then we also have Farm + Food 360 these are tours of different types of things we have the same thing for 360cities that you can go any City and see all those panoramic views Google Street View you can see streets and landmarks from all over the world I'm going to White House Tour you can see the zoo cams from all the different animals and their a lot live cameras of wildlife all over the world so this was kind of our virtual just kind of something fun that you can sit down and do with families with parents we have general information I realize that not all parents are going to be comfortable to sit around and read a bunch of information but we wanted it to be some you guys could be aware of maybe that the student needs to do the faster maybe you're just wanting some good career exploration ideas College Prep website resources and then we have like chlorine Colorado that has some bilingual resources PBS parents has the resources and then for teachers we have these are the trackable site so maybe your your district is Santa we want to see some math Improvement so Prodigy Math for example is something that you can you can get access to its free it was free unless they changed it last little bit and you can assign math tasks to kids to play through the game Desmos same thing books into the book ReadWorks these are all free resources that you can assign students in classroom to be able to work with and so we just have a listing of those on there and the very last one sometimes in the summer idrc offers bags with links to the portal and they have school supplies and and art supplies and we had a focus last year where the idea was in summer learning that you could they can, they could listen to books they could read as many books as they once did I think FunBrain has a bunch of books that they could listen to and then we challenge them to learn to draw this is a really good website with just very simple kid tutorials to be able to draw and if they want to get more complicated Aggie IO has some tools from Photoshop that you can actually have two or three people actually creating something at the same time creating some illustrations we've got some autodraw things this is kind of a fun tool with Google not sure if I so you can you can go on and and it'll tell you you you got to draw a dolphin dolphin in in 20 seconds behind that you actually drew the dolphin or not the kids love this one then there's some videos on how to draw and then their store to Bridgestone Storybird they can actually go in and create their own book and so we challenged them to create their own book and be able to share and some of our areas actually had competitions on their books and what's the weather that even if an area was saying we don't have anything going on that they could teach parents how to use this and they could still participate some people did virtual programs through this and so it's a pretty cool too and so. That was you guys know me from for the ID and our part with idrc but for 17 years in Tennessee I was the project coordinator and so I did I was over recruitment but I was also over program services and my dream job is not recruitment it is the service so this why is this project allowed me to be able to create something that we used to do we used to use and there's so many free resources that already exist that sometimes were thinking I don't have any Christian resources or I'm not sure what to do so this was my personal project I got to put this together and to really be able to do this and then in our new Grant with idrc we are allowed to continue to expand and I know where the idrc Consortium which is identification of recruitment but literally if that's all we're doing and our programs it's so complicated that that's all we're doing then we're really doing a disservice to the families who want to find them officially efficiently and then really be able to serve them so this is like said my personal Pride like to be able to put that on there and one that I hope is really helpful so now we're going to switch gears to something else that we're really excited about and this I know this presentation was supposed to be just about the portal but we now have a new tool sorry I'm going through all these things to find the next part make sure I'm sharing my screen yes so some of you may have gone to the training that we have but I want to explain how you guys and have access to this we got a grant outside of idrc outside of its through idrc but it's through AT&T so farmworker Justice and the and the migrant Head Start and idrc or alter search on this Grant and AT&T has something called the achiever e so we wrote a grant with farmworker Justice and we were funded and so this is a really cool project one of those things I'm super excited about because it gives us a chance to be able to provide for instructional resources that are free to my grenade programs the funding is supposed to go to November of 2024 if they're happy with us they'll refund us so we're hoping they're happy with us and gives us a lot of flexibility because this is not my grandad's being so you any teacher in your school can use these resources they can share them they can we did write it to be able to work with my grenade programs but the rules are not so tight that if you want to share it with another teacher that you work with you absolutely can so they have AT&T has something called the achiever e and the achiever has over 600 video tutorials and lessons that are tied to current media that that's available that can be used in instruction and so they have a section on digital learning resources so things like internet Basics affordable internet options digital citizenship access to mobile devices that can be helpful for like parents or out-of-school Youth and then they have tons and tons and tons of videos that are through the achiever eweb so some of their partners are like girls who code Khan Academy scratch weird enough young storytellers these are good high quality resources CNN Common Sense Media and got a lot of different tools so they have 500 videos they keep adding so we're going to close to almost six hundred and Mike here is Cartoon Network Warner Brothers scratch on Academy these are some of their Partners to be able to create these resources so in order to be able to have these resources we are three different accounts there's an account that you can have for students there's account for parents and there's an account for educators so there are links that you can use to sign up I'm going to go ahead and go to the one music. they said I can drop this in there so I just move my car point I'm going to drop this in the chat box so here is the one I got to find my zoom again sorry to drop this in the chat box if anyone wants NetSpend account so we are we have to come have like 6,000 accounts so we are like begging people get a chance but not just because he wanted counts we wanted to be actually relevant and helpful for you so make it back to my slides let's see so you have to have an account to be able to view the resources and you can kind of see them but it won't let you like do anything with them unless you have that account so we have like a special account link for our grants and that is where the we have an English version and a Spanish version and see if you can sign up there we have that links on our website if you go see if I can just share this with you so you know where to go on our website to go on the website if you just go four main page backed idrc scroll down a little bit there something that says resources to share right here at the top we have these resources so here are the links to be able to make your account and I'm going to talk about how you get a training for this so there's a process where we kind of learned what the the local areas needs are and then we have a general training for anyone that they want to have access to it and so that's that's right here so I'll explain how this this all works go back to my pleasure so that's where you find it on the resources to share what works really well with this they have tons and tons and content it's free you can have those access to theirs we see a few things are a little bit hard about it so for example they have 500 videos and they have a searchable tool that you can use to find those videos we feel like it'd be alot I hope so for you to have a spreadsheet of all of the videos and maybe a quick summary of how long it is what it's about and the direct link to that video so one of the things that we're doing is trying to make it as easy as possible for instructors to be able to use it so we have spreadsheets are with all the contents including for each grade level you can see a lot of times and instruction with my grenade students you have multiple grade levels so we've got on it like yours the video these are all the grades that it can be good with weave also have tools that will align the student family learning portal Resources with the achiever and I'll talk about that in a section in this little bit we have a description lengthen the time for each video we literally have watched I have a project person her name is yes mean she literally watched every single video on there so that when we're working with districts and they're saying I really wish I knew what resources you had for mental health she can stay here they are and give all of those particular resources right there and we just started a brand new project with it this week called connect connectivity where we connect resources from the student portal with Resources with the achiever e so if you're wondering like you want to see a lesson plan for maybe an hour and a half instruction with multiple resources from both places we have those also so if you're not a certified teacher with this new Grant we're also going to be doing trainings on how to do skills base teaching how to create plans that are tied to students needs if you're certified teacher will teach you on how to do differentiation of instruction if you have like a first grader and a third grader in the room like how do you make sure that your meaning both of their needs with similar content our project coordinator have her background is in school in and Christian alignment instruction she also has her master's in counseling and she's worked a ton with mental health issues bilingual in English and Spanish and still she is the one I work with her but she's the one that does a lot of the training we kind of do the so the materials you can make your account today but we have the what we're doing for our grant is we're working with each Local District to see what their needs are and to be able to share specific resources that might help train any of your instructors on how to use it we also have a simple system to create to track accounts so one of the weird things is we're kind of rated on how many accounts we set up but we don't have a way to really track that they give us numbers at the end of the month but we have to we also have a Miss kippah head for a little bit we have a technology scholarship so if programs have 50 accounts they can get free tablets for they get one free tablet for each 50 accounts. and that can go to a student who there be a scholarship application you fill out just why you think the student would need to get this and it can't just go to the district to just be another resource for technology has got to go to a family or student that is using that that's cool so we have a tracking form that you can keep track of your accounts we do that when you if you're interested we do a quick training on how to keep track of that so what it is we meet with any state that still interested in getting working with the materials we kind of figured needs to make sure that the training that we provide will also address those needs we share specific resources that might be helpful then once the accounts are setup we have a full training program for those that are using the tools so it's one thing to be like hey there's this cool and then they'll look at it you know if you're if you're a regular classroom teacher you have tons of tools and you may look at it and not look at it again and so we have some resources that anyone that has an account if it's on the tracking form because we'll send me a text from those are on those tracking forms will have training once a month on different top fix it may be on different generation of instruction it may be on standard alignment and maybe on how to incorporate this into current tools student needs mapping things like that for you how to take a lesson and make it relevant for an e l l learner and so we'll be sharing those through our newsletter and but in order to do it like here's an example let me let me share my screen on something else I got to find it for a second one of the things that we've been working on are these connectivity lessons and so let me give you an example of one of those open up make sure my screen again so one thing that we've got his kind of come out as sometimes the district's that we work with say you know I just one video may not help me out when ideas of how these can all work so this is a lesson for third through fifth grade because we were on our grade spreads and so remind people to make their account and the objective of this lesson for example as students will learn the words that have different shades of meaning and the word onomatopoeia and it's a big word that means different sound effects and so then we'll things from your cheery will pick things from the student portal and I'll be a read-aloud and kind of give you information about it they'll be a lesson plan of how to use it with a feeling sound like then they'll be some books that they can listen to some cities how to make for example to learn how to make a slam poem and then we also do extensions were other grade levels and Sonia chibry this is one that's related to mental health avoiding feelings and embracing support and then we have the vocabulary if they're yellow hear some other you know what games that they can play and then here's some additional things just once from these are from the achiever how to express our emotions through imagination and they actually have videos about Where the Wild Things Are on and how to you know lessons on belonging self-management The Art of Storytelling there's an extension for 6 through 12 on editing your emotions and finding the meaning impact of things that TV and film and online there's an extension for 3rd through 5 and expressing feelings connecting with care and embracing feelings during life changes so this is kind of covering a whole bunch of different content so we are going to have a whole bunch of these called connectivity is where we take resources from the TV resources from the student learning portal and then also just really good resources that exist I'll be about all different subjects they'll be math lb science and so these will be available to anyone that has an account and I'll be part of the newsletter go get access to these each month we've had by grenade programs tell us that they hire teachers for the summer but they don't give him curriculum and so this is idea to do something that would be engaging and helpful for both the teacher and the student and thing and then all of the resources are already free and accessible and so those will be this is all through our new Grant so we go back just so you did you did have a question in the chat regarding the accounts before you move on thank you let's see this stuff set up an account will they be contacted by a TV right so no you can just set up your account and nobody will be nobody will contact there is a form that you have to fill out to request training so you can just access the achiever e ones through our Link at any point we just felt like you and might be good to do more than just like a go there and there's five hundred videos we thought it might hopefully show how you could really build really enriching curriculum and then provide some of those insights and ideas through the the tool so go on and make your account but the only way you get that is that trackable things let me go talk to a little bit more about how this works so this is where we ask that there is a tracking form for each one of those accounts that set up if you go back to our website that is right there on the front sir but what normally what we ask is that you let us know that you want to use the materials and then so we part of the technology scholarship is that you do you get that after 50 accounts part of that also helps us know who's actually using it and then when you have those are program coordinator when she meets with your District if your interest your region however you want to set it up still give you those forms that you can go ahead and start keeping track of those accounts and then most of the time I think we use it in a Google one so anytime there's new people added will just add them to the newsletter and I'll start getting those resources and getting the information about training so AT&T requires us to keep track of it we thought it'd be helpful if like the scholarships are tied to that but then there's also resources that teachers can get in addition to it than just like the achiever account so these are our grant requirements as well wired to show who were working with who got the that's why we have to do that training who you know specifically we have to keep track of how many accounts are created how many schools are working with how many students and so that those accounts really help us out say what now you know I don't have to do this to anyone because our instructor will go ahead and share that video you may not need one for every student but the more accounts that you have the more technology scholarships you're able to get so if you're interested in training which we would love love love for to work with we don't work with instructors individually we work with are like the multiple cuz just time wise so it would be like let's say you have a teacher say I want training then you need to work with your District to see who all would want to have training anyone ever this can be my grenade teachers we wrote it for my granddad but if you have other teachers that could benefit from this they can definitely have accounts to once we get that request I'll show you that request form then yes we will reach out to you she will set up a meeting to be able to know your District your Region's needs and then she'll set up like right now we have several General training for any instructors after that initial needs assessment meeting is conducted with us when you can have access to that we have a training on the 23rd we would train on the 7th so we do these pretty fast and the training can be provided and then you'll get access to the newsletter and to the extra resources and things like that so the project form if you're wondering where you go ahead and go and find that let me go ahead and if I can open up our website go to the website make sure you in those trains for any of your instructors I thought you weren't such a pretty cool pretty easy used tool but we're hoping that the air connectivity resources that we're sharing will make it even better so that you can see how to use both the learning portal and the achiever e at the same time to really help support your instruction needs to be go back to Quest comments any thoughts Exodus so like how to handle when you have multiple kids Frozen and really I think time management and how to use all these great resources that you shared when we well I'm Army of one right so kind of set a vision for what summer could look like so just wondered if you could speak to that a little bit so I think one of the things that we share which I could pull up I might be able to. She'll see if I can find it we have a standard scale spreadsheet that we use and so one of the example I like to share as you could do something like making butter and it could be fun it could really have no relevance to the child unless your skill you're picking out the skills at the I need so let's say in front of you you have because you're the one woman show you have a kindergartener a third grader and a 7th grader because in reality you could be in home in this could be exactly what you have and so your idea is to go into home and share and mom maybe they're listening and it you're going to make butter with them and so the resources that we would share would give you a set of skills and standards that would be relevant for each grade level so for example the kindergartener needs to be able to so we're going to shake this in a butter is worth going and because I know I can't spend my whole our only on my kindergartener because I have my third grader and I have my 7th grader but I'm going to make sure that I don't leave without teaching something that kindergartener really needs to know so third graders sitting right next to him maybe I'm having it that third grade skip count you know and then seventh-grader is doing I'm making them do something but my kindergartener my skill is that we're going to count by twos and we're going to see how make sure that that child is able to do that 3rd grader may need to know sequence of events so in my mind I'm still doing the same activity but sequence of events could be that they're going to write the steps from the beginning to the end that we do it my kindergartener could draw the pictures and still pay attention they could still I'm sorry this my 7th grader can still be listening to this process and making sure that all the steps are right but in that same lesson I'm going to talk about how he's skinny Jersey cow has I might have information about you no eating the grass what on Earth is happening and then look at how what could turn into a solid and so we're going to be talking about the science that happens with that third grader can still be listening kindergartener can still be listening but my seventh grade scale is I want them to be able to explain how a liquid might turn to a solid so I think one thing is like when is Asian and another thing is can you do specific activities so when you look at these for example those lessons that I was just mentioning that me see if I can find let me go back to cuz I owe straight the concept we use that skill idea with this so we have an objective that students can learn smaller shapes can be built into into bigger shapes but if you noticed this was for K through 2 but if you scroll down we're saying hey if you want to are fine you can really do this you know 3rd through 12th and this is what they're going to be doing and so there are lesson plans right there that would take that same activity and make it relevant for different grades so for AIDS to through 10th as you could do the lesson on triangles so what we're trying to do is simplify like you may do if you really want to see how to do this this is my website from all the units that we used to do Tennessee going to drop this in this is our present to you if you're looking for I believe in really high quality instruction so we used to do for example we have something called scream machines me drop this in the chat bar all along with this and we're also going to include some of these type of resources in the connectivity things but in this unit the final project is these kids are making these paper roller coasters that they're actually building and creating and so we got pictures of some of our migrant kids that we're doing it but if you click on that the unit right here we're going to have activities and then standards activities and standards so how can I make this relevant you know it'll have like they're learning about roller coasters they're going to start talking about this then I'm going too fast when it's talk about some books we're going to talk about some videos of what these actually look like we're going to have some prompts and I believe this unit if it doesn't sorry I'm going way too fast and then we find you one this unit man okay then I'm going to give you a bunch of standards for all the grade levels that could go with any of those activities that were just mentioned on the contagious before this and you'll look and see that all right kindergarten has to take part in and research and writing projects well first grade also has to take part in research and writing projects well second grade also has to take purse and so we start looking at how it you know they all have to describe characters in the story and so we can give you the skills and I think so I think sometimes we overcomplicate it my more like how am I going to meet all these you can do roller coasters with each one of them and just do different things your measurements your math those kind of things so that is we like to teach concrete everyday you know how you can do this in a way that's not super complicated and so the connectivity Zara small regions of that but I have full units like if you're like what the heck did we do in the summer we have a superhero unit for example that we break it down into Week 1 week 2 weeks 3 weeks for and there it's writing reading history it's all of that combined and in the end they're actually creating their own superhero and they're figuring out what the character in the story and all of these kind of things so like I said my love is this not so much but you can really do some really really cool things and so we're hoping through the achiever that were able to make your job easier and not overwhelm you but share some really practical things that you can do to make construction good with multiple sorry that was a long-winded answer to your question that's perfect because I do think that that's something that we need and and I'll just put in a little no don't be too afraid of all the yeses and knows that you got from Texas the beginning because I think it's a I was looking at the NGS Manuel after we had that I known as is connected and I don't know if we're still having coffee hour tomorrow but you know I think it's a difference between making sure that we're coating no services those supports it what actually counts in this espr you know what I mean you again the armies of one yeah we do yes those things but then it is a difference when it actually gets in lisianski our Global so anyway and we love each other questions I hope this has been helpful it's not been at like so we're all kind of all over there a lot of resources I'm really excited about when we got me a TV and Grant are our new person that we hired I literally made her listen to everything cuz sometimes you get something and it's great and so it's like I don't want to be promoting like this could be a great resource and then you're like this  like so she went through everything and they're good they're good so I watched a bunch of myself so hopefully this gives you guys all real solid base of you already have good solid programming this is just kind of icing on the cake to be able to help you with those was extra thanks and I seen as close as if you want to say something I noticed you popped up on life of a little bit easier than finding resources so you know there's this to a special of serving our students yesterday and we also have to provide value to it so it is finding that balance and we really appreciate we hope that you know we Texas been part of why yes he's gives you a little bit more more of a population to do experiment and see what works in the wheels are willing to share everything this a lot of good this is not happening at the district and Regional levels have been if you ever have questions for your presentation and everything that you guys do so the only thing I can say is get your achieve recounting I see Russell even if she just joined from Wisconsin it's actually her sister cuz I try to get Rosalina to take that job tell him I said I was going to email rest of our ASD because I think it's another opening right to say hey these are some great resources and a lot of times were very limited and you know I got a bright beginning just migrant you know all who sings it and my colleague who is a little bit and my grandpa died mostly intitle 3 he is also connected them to the tmip and he's like right resources great resources and there's a lot that we have to share so I'm glad that that peace is not as limited because and I think that opens the door for people that are going to see the advocacy and having a vision and appreciate what you say that about I do not is important but if we're not serving kids legitimately we're just a census program in the end and very thankful for that and for that Vision exactly it just need it so I'm going to
